Supernova neutrino burst detection with the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), a 40-kton underground liquid argon time projection chamber experiment, will be sensitive to the electron-neutrino flavor component of burst neutrinos expected from next Galactic core-collapse supernova. Such an observation bring unique insight into astrophysics core collapse as well properties neutrinos. general capabilities DUNE for neutrino detection in relevant few- few-tens-of-MeV energy range described. As example, DUNE's ability constrain $\nu_e$ spectral parameters considered.

Identifying the neutrino mass spectrum from a supernova neutrino burst

We study the role that the future detection of the neutrino burst from a galactic supernova can play in the reconstruction of the neutrino mass spectrum. We consider all possible 3ν mass and flavor spectra which describe the solar and atmospheric neutrino data. For each of these spectra we find the observable effects of the supernova neutrino conversions both in the matter of the star and the e...

Supernova Neutrino Detection

Astronomers expect that every 30 years or so, a massive star in our Galaxy will reach the end of its life. When the core of such a star collapses, it emits nearly all of the gravitational binding energy of a neutron star in the form of neutrinos, some Eb ∼ 3 × 10 53 ergs. Less than 1% of this energy is released in the form of kinetic energy and optically visible radiation. The remainder is radi...

Future Detection of Supernova Neutrino Burst and Explosion Mechanism

Future detection of a supernova neutrino burst by large underground detectors would give important information for the explosion mechanism of collapse-driven supernovae. We studied the statistical analysis for the future detection of a nearby supernova by using a numerical supernova model and realistic Monte-Carlo simulations of detection by the Super-Kamiokande detector. We mainly discuss the ...

Supernova Neutrino Detection in Borexino

We calculated the expected neutrino signal in Borexino from a typical Type II supernova at a distance of 10 kpc. A burst of around 110 events would appear in Borexino within a time interval of about 10 s. Most of these events would come from the reaction channel ν̄e + p → e+ + n, while about 30 events would be induced by the interaction of the supernova neutrino flux on 12C in the liquid scintil...

Identifying the neutrino mass spectrum from the neutrino burst from a supernova

The current data on solar and atmospheric neutrinos admit more than one solutions in terms of the oscillations between three neutrino species. We examine the consequences of these different masses-andmixing schemes for the observable spectra of neutrinos from the burst of a Type II supernova. We point out the distinguishing features of these schemes, and discuss the prospects of identifying the...
